Scottish Memories

To anyone who has ever read Lewis Grassic Gibbon's "A Scots Quair" or more specifically his first novel in that series - "Sunset Song" - this wonderful CD is like a breath of fresh Mearns air. It is simply one of the most atmospheric discs I have had the pleasue of reviewing for a long time. This CD captures in sound what the TV serial "Sunset Song" did all of those years ago and is a classic performance by all concerned. Bobby Harvey.

The Living Tradition

It is not the kind of album one encounters every day: indeed you might say that this type of thoughtful, lovely, impressioned oddity comes around - once every quarter century!
Would I recommend this CD? Well, if you have Caledonia in your blood for sure I would.

Scotland Magazine

This CD is a collection of songs celebrating a region of South Aberdeenshire known as the Mearns. It is punctuated with readings from local son and famous novelist Lewis Grassic Gibbon and accompanied by a selection of string quartet and folk instruments. It has been an ambitious project by all accounts but a great success.

Scots Magazine - January 2006

A "Tale Of The Howe" is a collection of eight hauntingly beautful songs accompanied by a selection of guitar, bouzouki, whistle, pipes, accordion, strings and double bass. The supporting narrative was extracted largely from A Scots Quair written by son of the Mearns, Lewis Grassic Gibbon.

Robbie Shepherd

Congratulations on a most ambitious CD. It worked and all success with it.

May I, as a born and raised "childe of the Mearns," heartily congratulate you. You have done for the Mearns what no one has ever come close to before and we can only thank you for this. Well done indeed.

Jim Douglas - Poet, Writer and Artist. Creator of the lyrics for Ewan and Sunset Song

I am delighted to be included in this outstanding work of art, for that's what it is

Clarke Geddes - Author of "Nemesis in The Mearns"

You have certainly captured the mood and character of the Old Mearns as Leslie Mitchell saw it.
